What’s the best way to clean RCR glassware?
Unlike traditional crystalware, RCR glassware is quick and easy to clean.
RCR Cristalleria is dishwasher safe and can be easily placed alongside your other drinkware, dinnerware and cutlery in the same wash. Always ensure that there’s plenty of room between each glass to ensure they don’t knock or scrape against each other. Be sure to dry your RCR glassware after washing it and store it in a cool, dry place.
To give your glasses an extra sparkle, try hand washing and polishing them — however, be careful not to apply too much pressure while polishing, wiping and drying your glasses. While RCR glassware is much more durable than traditional lead crystalware, it features a thin, delicate design that can be easily damaged if care is not taken.
What is the difference between glass and crystal?
Crystal is stronger than glass in its raw form, meaning it is much easier to spin into thinner, more intricate patterns and designs without sacrificing durability. However, traditional glass is spun into thicker shapes, which means it is more durable than crystal glassware.
Crystal glasses are traditionally made with lead, though the practice has fallen out of popularity due to its additional cost and public health concerns over lead leaching.
However, crystal glasses that contain lead are still safe to drink from and are considered more decadent than other glassware as they can refract light and produce musical notes along their rim. However, glass is much more affordable than crystal. While our range of recycled RCR glassware is dishwasher safe, most crystal glasses must be hand washed and regularly polished. Glass is also non-porous and will not absorb chemicals or aromas from drinks, unlike crystal.
Is crystalware easy to break?
Yes, crystal glassware is easy to break because of its thin, delicate construction, which is why crystalware is typically reserved for special occasions or fine dining. The stem and rim of crystalware glasses are particularly delicate, so we recommend taking extra care when polishing or wiping these areas.
However, while traditional lead crystalware is known for being delicate, modern glassware innovations have created sturdier types of lead-free crystalware — some of which are dishwasher safe. The RCR range is made with 100% recycled eco-crystal glass that combines the thinness of traditional crystal with the convenience of more durable everyday drinkware.
